Muslim-Americans have come under fire recently from their fellow Americans for having the edacity to consider building a mosque near Ground Zero. The right wing is going nuts with hateful verbal attacks and signs condemning the idea. I am out raged at signs like the the one pictured and many such signs being held by professing Christians, who's job it is to love and have compassion and mercy on their fellow man.
I'm trying to understand all the outrange being dumped upon the idea. First of all it is 2 blocks away, not right on top, Second there are two other mosques in the area, third it is a community center, fourth Muslim doesn't equal terrorist.
The Muslim-American population lost people in the 9/11 attacks it wasn't only right wing white people. The vilifying of Muslims since 9/11 has been constant and steady and needs to stop. Our country was founded on freedom of religion and it needs to uphold those freedoms or we're all lost.
It saddens me that we are so backwards in thinking. No wonder racism is still alive. Instead of fighting and hating each other for our differences we should be loving one another and celebrating each others differences. It makes me think of a song I grew up with that goes ...red, and yellow, black and white THEY are precious in His site, Jesus loves the little children of the world. Do we believe this?
